Day 16: Buying Secondhand
I am so so loving this experiment! I think I generally focus on ways to feel good from the inside out i.e. mediation, yoga, journaling etc. But Style makes you feel good from the outside in, AND it’s also fun! I realized over this experiment that I don’t really think about my clothes that much. This is a really duh statement but it takes some effort to look good! Especially when you’re first building out your ideal wardrobe. You really do have to spend time shopping around and getting inspiration from others. I’ve spent many hours over the weekend on different pinterest boards and shopping sites and I can see how it can become a total time suck but for now, I’m indulging.
Not to be a total buzzkill but another big realization I’m having during this experiment is that I really really don’t like buying new clothes. Ever since my Zero Waste experiment a few years back, I’ve become hyper aware of all the waste we produce and have really cut back on fast fashion. It just feels pointless to contribute to one of the most polluting industries and there’s so many amazing vintage, sustainable and secondhand options! That’s not to say I never buy new things, if I really love something, I buy it guilt free. I also like supporting designers as well so I like to shop small and local if I can. I started out the month forgetting this about myself and ordered a few things online. While I was waiting for those items to come in the mail, I went to Buffalo Exchange and ended up finding so much stuff that I loved secondhand. I didn’t love the new stuff as much so I returned it. Anyways, I think I like the hunt and bringing back to life used clothing so maybe I should stick to that. My favorite way to shop secondhand is through poshmark. Check it out if you’re not familiar!
Also my friend sent me this video over the weekend and she got me all excited about thrifting!
