Day 16: Social Creature
Either I’m having a really good day, I drank one too many cups of green tea, or I really am just loving this month of money. It’s so weird. You would think I’d give this thrifty life up in one second to go back to my first class honeymoon Parisian lifestyle (and let’s be honest, I probably would), but there’s also this incredible satisfaction in knowing I can find happiness in not spending any money. It’s a different kind of freedom I suppose!
The main mantra I’ve been telling myself this month is “I can be social and not spend (much) money.” This has been the most crucial part in making this experiment a pleasure instead of a chore. In the beginning of the month, I felt extremely anxious by my sudden halt in online shopping and grabbing meals out. I figured the only way I could see my friends was to spend lots of money, mostly by means of food and alcohol. What’s been the most surprising part of this experiment is that I’ve been more social this month than the rest of the year. I’ve been enjoying pool parties, long walks with my friends on town lake, going to potlucks, and just good ol’ hanging out at each others houses. I think it helps that it’s summer but still, I could live more like this and I honestly enjoy it more!
So anyways, that’s pretty big for me! I’ve also been listening to some amazing podcasts about money and getting my investments, budget, and other more practical things in order.
I’m traveling the second half of this month so let’s see how my frugal fun times pan out when I’m on the road!
